A Kenyan man working in Qatar as a security guard at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium on Tuesday fell and later died in hospital.
John Njau Kibue fell at the stadium on Saturday. He was taken to the hospital and put in intensive care but died on Tuesday according to the organizers, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
The security staff at stadiums is largely made up of migrant workers, particularly from Kenya and other African nations.
The committee in a statement said that Kibue fell from the eighth floor while on duty. There was no game in the stadium when it happened.
“We regret to announce that, despite the efforts of his medical team, he sadly passed away in hospital on Tuesday 13 December, after being in the intensive care unit for three days,” the statement said.

“His next of kin have been informed. We send our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and friends during this difficult time.”
Their first statement last week said the committee was investigating the fall and will give a solid conclusion on what happened.
“Qatar’s tournament organisers are investigating the circumstances leading to the fall as a matter of urgency and will provide further information pending the outcome of the investigation, ” it said in its statement.
“We will also ensure that his family receive all outstanding dues and monies owed.”
The venue will host the final on Sunday between Argentina and the winner of the France-Morocco semifinal.
