Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish expressed his deep distress after his residence was burglarized while he was engaged in a match for the Premier League champions.
The incident occurred at his Cheshire mansion during Manchester City’s game against Everton on Wednesday night. Grealish’s family and fiancée Sasha Atwood, who were watching the match on television at the property, became aware of the disturbance.
An immediate response was initiated, involving a helicopter, police dogs, and several officers dispatched to the property near Knutsford.
Despite the efforts, the culprits managed to escape without being apprehended. The stolen items reportedly included jewelry and watches valued at £1 million.
Taking to Instagram on New Year’s Eve, Grealish shared his feelings about the burglary, stating,
“I can’t begin to explain how devastated I am over the burglary that took place at my home a few days ago. My family mean the world to me, and nothing is more important than ensuring their safety. This has been a traumatic experience for all of us, and I am just so grateful that nobody was hurt.”
Expressing his frustration with the perpetrators, he added,
“The people that commit these terrible crimes have no idea of the damage they cause to people’s lives. I hope they are found and brought to justice so no other family has to go through what we have.”
Acknowledging the support he received, Grealish thanked everyone and wished them a happy 2024. The spokeswoman for Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the burglary, stating that the police were alerted around 9:50 pm on December 27.
Despite deploying various resources, including police dogs and the National Police Air Service, the suspects were not located, and no arrests have been made yet. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police.
Grealish had played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory against Everton at Goodison Park before learning about the break-in.
