Legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United has turned into a nightmare not only for him but for the team as well.
The 37-year-old, who left Wednesday’s match against Tottenham early, has sought to explain his actions after being dropped by the club for its upcoming game against Chelsea. Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Wednesday’s win and was seen walking down the tunnel with several minutes left to play.
This was despite him warming up a few minutes into the first half of the game and was expected to enter around the 35th minute.
Ronaldo’s Response to Manchester United’s Decision
“On social media, Ronaldo explained his unexpected move following Manchester United’s move to banish him from the first-team squad,” he said.
“As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries, and my coaches. That hasn’t changed. I haven’t changed. I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process.”
The star hasn’t played much this season and his relationship with the club has been deteriorating by the day.
In his eight appearances so far this season – six of which have come from the subs bench – Ronaldo has scored just once.
In his statement, he said that he’s still focused on playing for his team and hopes that things will be ironed out soon.
“I started very young, the older and most experienced players examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment get’s the best of us,” he said.
“Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again. 💪🏽🙏🏽”
