Birmingham City players are allegedly feeling a sense of relief following the dismissal of Wayne Rooney from his managerial position at the club.

Rooney, the former Manchester United legend, faced a tumultuous stint with the Championship club, lasting less than three months and managing only two wins in 15 games since taking charge in October. This poor run of form saw Birmingham City plummet from 6th to 20th in the league standings by New Year’s Day.

According to a Daily Mail report, a group of Birmingham players expressed relief at the conclusion of Rooney’s tenure at St Andrew’s.

The same players are rumored to be open to the return of John Eustace, who Rooney had replaced. Eustace had previously led the team successfully before being replaced by Rooney, and the subsequent decline in results had affected the team’s confidence.

Rooney, as per the Daily Mail, had anticipated having a transfer window to bring in new players and was reportedly shocked at his abrupt departure.

In an official statement, Birmingham City announced the decision, stating, “Birmingham City has today parted company with Manager, Wayne Rooney, and First Team Coach, Carl Robinson. Despite their best efforts, results have not met the expectations that were made clear at the outset. Therefore, the Board feels that a change in management is in the best interests of the Football Club.”

The statement further emphasized the Board’s commitment to rebuilding Birmingham City, expressing gratitude to Rooney and Robinson for their efforts while assuring fans and the community of their dedication to the club’s transformation.
