US Team Starting Lineup Youngest In World Cup So Far, Oldest Player Was 25 Years

The United States men’s national team’s starting lineup against Iran had the youngest players in the World Cup with the average age being 24 years.

According to ESPN, had an average age of 24 years, 321 days. It is the youngest lineup at the 2022 FIFA World Cup thus far.

Josh Sargent, who started up top for the USMNT in the opening group stage match against Wales, started at striker once again, replacing Haji Wright. On the opposite end of the pitch, Cameron Carter-Vickers saw his first-ever World Cup action at centerback in place of veteran Walker Zimmerman.

The two teams clashed yesterday in a tense match but the United States advanced to the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup by defeating Iran 1-0 in a must-win match.

Needing simply a victory to advance, Christian Pulisic delivered the biggest moment of his USMNT career, scoring in the 38th minute and injuring himself in the process. The U.S. star put his body on the line to deliver the moment the U.S. needed to advance, taking a knee from Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand to the gut in the process.
