Renowned former world marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang is currently on the path to recovery following a car accident that transpired on Monday evening in Kolol, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Speaking from his residence on Tuesday, the 2012 Olympic Games marathon bronze medallist assured that he is recuperating well after experiencing a car accident for the second time.
“There’s no need for concern. I am recovering satisfactorily here at home. I exerted considerable effort to regain control of the car and steer it to safety. I am grateful that I, along with my family members, survived the incident,” stated Kipsang, a two-time London Marathon champion.
Recounting the details of the accident, Kipsang, a former world marathon record holder with a time of 2:03:23, explained that the brakes of his Toyota Landcruiser malfunctioned, leading him to exert significant effort to avert a collision with an overtaking vehicle.
“We are lucky that we survived the accident. We picked minor injuries that were treated at Iten Referral Hospital. We are now recuperating at home in Muskut,” said Kipsang, who was in the vehicle alongside his wife and their two sons.
“I want to assure Kenyans and all my fans and friends around the world that I am well.”
This was the second accident in four years, having been involved in another along the Eldoret-Iten Road in 2019 when his Toyota Prado hit a lorry. He escaped unhurt.
