Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis champion, has been winning over fans at the Australian Open not just with his impressive performance on the court, but also with his love for Australia and its culture.
In an on-court interview after his quarter-final win over Jiri Lehecka, Tsitsipas expressed his admiration for Australian actress Margot Robbie, saying “it would be nice to see her over there one day” while gesturing towards the stands at the Rod Laver Arena.
This isn’t the first time Tsitsipas has shown his appreciation for Australia.
Throughout the tournament, he has been vocal about his love for the country and the support he has received from the Greek community in Melbourne. He has even been using some Aussie slang, much to the delight of the spectators at Melbourne Park.
Despite his admiration for Robbie, it seems that Tsitsipas has a special someone in his life. Insider information to Greek City Times reveals that he is in a relationship with socialite Theodora Petalas, and the couple is known to keep their relationship private.
They were first spotted together on holiday in 2020, but have known each other for several years before they started dating.
After beating Rafael Nadal at the 2021 Australian Open, Tsitsipas wrote online “TP, that’s for you,” indicating his love and dedication to his girlfriend.
While Margot Robbie may not be able to attend Tsitsipas’ semi-final match, the Greek champion has already won the hearts of many Australians with his love for the country and his gracious attitude.
With his impressive performance on the court and his charming personality, it’s no wonder why he continues to be a fan favorite at the Australian Open.
