Kenyans were nothing less than proud and happy following Harambee Stars forward Ayub Timbe Masika’s new football contract after staying out of club action since October last year.
Timbe has signed with Japan-based football club Vissel Kobe and is set to play alongside Barcelona star Andres Iniesta and former Arsenal player Thomas Vermaleen. He has been without a club since his departure from Beijing Renhe where he camped for 4 years.
The 28-year-old player took to social media to announce the move saying: New beginning. New Mindset. New Focus. New Start. New intentions. New results.”
“First of all, I want to thank the club for the trust to allow me to join them. It is a great feeling to be part of the Kobe family and I cannot wait to get started. See you soon,” the forward said in a video posted by the club.
Timbe becomes the second Harembee Star play to join a japan based team after Micheal Olunga. Olunga managed to win the Golden Boot in the 2020 J1 League season after netting 28 goals in 32 games and went ahead to lift the Most Valuable Player award becoming the first African to do so in Japan. This is expected to put pressure on Timbe as he gears for a return.
On social media, Kenyans congratulated him for the new job and were eager to see his start.
Here’s how people reacted:

Watching Ayub Timbe Masika play soccer is a thing of beauty. He has an incredible pace and foot work. I watched him play last year against Uganda at the Kasarani and I was just thrilled. #masikasigns pic.twitter.com/OnOFyGuQl8
