South African mining billionaire Patrice Motsepe was elected president of the African soccer confederation on Friday without the need for a vote after a deal brokered by FIFA saw his three challengers withdraw and left him as the only candidate.

Motsepe might be a rather new name in African sports but has been dominating headlines for a long time now.

Ranked as the 4th richest South African and 14th richest African by FORBES, the 59-year-old billionaire is the brains behind African Rainbow Minerals based in South Africa.

He’s also known for many other things including his expensive lifestyle.

He owns a football team called Mamelodi Sundowns based in Pretoria.

Motsepe owns a house worth $6 million located south of Cape Town. He also has a great taste in cars and has been seen in flashy luxury brands such as BMW 750i, Bently Continental, Mayback, and Mercedes Benz. He also owns a private jet.

Despite being rich and flamboyant, Motsepe is a huge giver and has been in the news several times because of his charity habits.

“I decided quite some time ago to give at least half of the funds generated by our family assets to uplift the poor and other disadvantaged and marginalized South Africans but was also duty-bound and committed to ensuring that it would be done in a way that protects the interests and retains the confidence of our shareholders and investors,” Motsepe says.
