Unexpected Pub Visit by Tom Brady and Tom Wagner
Renowned NFL quarterback Tom Brady won the hearts of numerous Birmingham City supporters when he generously treated them to drinks before their match against Leeds United last weekend.
Having secured an impressive seven Super Bowl victories during his illustrious career, Brady made his mark in the NFL before retiring for the second time earlier this year.
Recently, he earned the title of co-owner of the Blues, aligning himself with the Birmingham City board alongside new chairman Tom Wagner.
As close friends, Brady and Wagner made an appearance at the Royal George Hotel ahead of the match against Leeds United.
During their visit, the 46-year-old quarterback made sure the drinks were flowing for all patrons in the pub before the game kicked off.
According to BirminghamLive, the former star of the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers footed a bill of £150 for the rounds in the Small Heath establishment.
The event turned into a photo-opportunity extravaganza, with Brady posing for numerous snapshots and even a few selfies with excited Blues fans.
The presence of Brady, Wagner, and Birmingham CFO Gary Cook also left an impressive £400 tab behind the bar.
Well, Brady is speculated to be worth around $4 billion now. So that wasn’t much of a pinch for him.
Antoin McGroarty, the owner of the pub, was thoroughly amazed by the unexpected visit. Speaking to BirminghamLive, he shared, “I had no idea they were coming, out of sheer coincidence I’d asked a photographer to come in for the day to take some shots. I was standing behind the bar and it was such a shock. I couldn’t believe it. He’s probably the biggest sports star in the world and to pop into our pub, in the middle of Small Heath, it was amazing.”
McGroarty continued,
“The two Toms [Brady and Wagner] were absolutely brilliant, they had selfies with absolutely everyone. They bought beer for everyone that was in there. They couldn’t have been nicer. They came here, had a beer, and a chat with everybody. It doesn’t come much bigger than Tom Brady.”
While there may be skeptics who suggest that Brady, Wagner, and Cook’s actions were merely a PR move to capitalize on the goodwill of Birmingham’s fans, the supporters themselves were undoubtedly thrilled to have the opportunity to meet a globally recognized superstar in their local pub.
A Memorable Victory at St Andrew’s Stadium
On the field, the day turned out to be a success for the Blues as well. Following the pub interaction, Brady headed over to St Andrew’s to witness Birmingham’s 1-0 victory against Leeds United.
Just as it happened so frequently throughout Brady’s celebrated career, the match came down to the last moments, with Birmingham striker Lukas Jutkiewicz netting a goal from the penalty spot in injury time, securing all three points for the Blues.
