Kenyan marathoners Elias Chelimo and Sheila Chepkoech won the men’s and women’s categories of the Nairobi Marathon on Sunday.
Over 25,000 participants took part in the event where Chelimo disposed of his challengers with two kilometers to go to take home the men’s top honor in two hours, 10 minutes and 22 seconds.
Wilfred Kirwa led the challengers home 29 seconds behind, ahead of Felix Kangogo, who rounded off the podium in 2:11:10.
In the women’s race, Chepkech broke the tape in 2:27:04 after surging away from her competitors from the 40km mark in the event staged on a looped course in the southern part of the Kenyan capital.
Tokyo 2020 Olympian Daniel Ebenyo won the men’s half marathon after clocking 1:00:50.
Evaline Chirchir took home the women’s half marathon title in 1:09:58.
