A CCTV footage has emerged showing how Kenyan-born Ugandan athlete Edward Benjamin Kiplagat was executed while on his way home in Eldoret.
The primary suspects implicated in the homicide of Benjamin Kiplagat will now be detained by the police for an additional 21 days to facilitate the completion of ongoing investigations.
Magistrate Cherono Kese of the Eldoret court granted the police’s request to keep the suspects, namely David Ekhai Lokere alias Timo and Peter Ushuru Khalumi, in custody during their appearance on Tuesday.

Inyasio Mwaniki, the Investigating Officer, sought the extension, citing the pending post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of Kiplagat’s death. Mwaniki also highlighted that crucial evidence, including blood-stained clothing and a dagger knife obtained from the suspects, has yet to undergo analysis at the government chemist.
Furthermore, Mwaniki informed the court that the CCTV footage from the crime scene is awaiting certification and production by the cybercrime unit.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning in Kimumu estate, Eldoret, as Kiplagat was en route to his residence. One suspect was apprehended in Langas, Eldoret, while the other was detained at the border of Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia counties.
Magistrate Kese directed that the two suspects be held at the Eldoret Central Police station, with the case scheduled for mention on January 24, 2024.
