Italian football legend Francesco Totti has confessed that he’s scared of a looming divorce from his wife Ilary.
According to the 45-year-old star, he learnt of his wife’s infidelity from close friends and did his investigation only to find that it was true.
The two have been married for nearly 20 years, with the couple formalising their union in Rome in 2005. They met in 2002.
“I looked at her mobile phone. And I saw that there was a third person, who was acting as an intermediary between Ilary and another one,” Totti said in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“Here was the evidence. The facts. And that led to depression. I couldn’t sleep anymore. I pretended nothing was wrong, but I was no longer me, I was someone else. I got out of it thanks to Naomi,” he added.
The 2006 World Cup winner admitted he struggled mentally after finding out that his wife was with another man, retiring in 2017 and then losing his father to Covid-19 in 2020.
He, however, insisted that he didn’t start cheating on his wife first.
“It is not true that I was the first to betray. I said I was not going to speak and I did not, but I have read too many hoaxes in recent weeks. Some have even made my children suffer,’ he continued.
“In September of last year the rumors began to reach me: “look, Ilary has another one. Indeed, more than one. I had never done it in twenty years, nor had she ever done it with me. But when I received warnings from different people, whom I trust, I began to suspect.”
