A young, promising lad who has his roots back in Kenya has been promoted to the Everton first team.

Tyler Onyango, 17, is now part of The Toffees first team squad and ha regularly features among the substitutes when the team sheet comes out before matches.

He rose up the ranks in England as he represented the country at junior levels.

Because of his Kenyan roots, however, Onyango is fully eligible to switch allegiance and play for the Harambee Stars.

At Everton, he played a large part of last season for the under 23 side but consistent performances coupled with a minor injury crisis at Goodison Park prompted manager Carlo Ancelotti to promote him to the first team.

Onyango also received endorsement from Everton’s under 23 boss David Unsworth.

He’s a boy with a big opportunity and, potentially, with a big future,” Unsworth told the Echo.

“He looks the part, his gains are outstanding, he will get better and better. He’s got the physique, the pace…I’m trying not to get too excited too soon but I like seeing that,”

Onyango formed part of the matchday squad in Everton’s latest game, a Merseyside derby against Liverpool where they triumphed 2-0.

The youngster, however, did not have to come on as the game was well managed by other senior players.
