Nairobi Racecourse was ablaze with excitement as Kevit Desai emerged as the triumphant winner of the 51st Africa Concours d’Elegance.
With his impeccable 1968 Jaguar 420, Desai dazzled the 10,000-strong crowd that had gathered to witness this prestigious event.
Desai’s Triumph in the Classic Car Category
During his remarkable journey to clinch victory, the indomitable Desai scored 37 points for the car’s underside, 77 for its external finish, 58 for the interior, boot, and engine, 6 for roadworthiness, and 4 for the car’s age.
His celebration was well-deserved as he showcased a 1968 Jaguar 420, a model introduced at the October 1966 London Motor Show and produced for two years as the ultimate representation of a series of “compact sporting saloons” offered by Jaguar throughout that decade, all sharing the same wheelbase.
Securing the second place overall was Grayling May, who paraded a 1967 Alfa Romeo Sprint and accumulated a total score of 269. May’s car scored 35 points for its underside, 75 for its external finish, 56 for the interior, boot, and engine, 6 for roadworthiness, and 41 for the car’s age.
The team from Vitaform Products Limited, with a 1966 MGB, took the third position.

Champion Motorcycles and Tumaini Muthiga’s Impressive Display
In the motorcycle category, Dominique Antoine’s 1925 Triumph 550 SD was declared the undisputed champion. Following closely behind was Russel Hughes from Gilgil, showcasing a 1956 Ducati 65T, and David Odhuno, who brought a 1989 Yamaha Super Tenere, secured the third place.
Tumaini Muthiga, known as the “Eliud Kipchoge of Concours,” entered an impressive array of four cars and two motorcycles, most of which earned awards at this annual spectacle.
His 1999 Harley Davidson clinched the top spot in Class 17, for street motorcycles ranging from 1301cc to 1600cc, surpassing Ugandan competitor Edward Mbabazi and his 2013 BMW K1600T Tourer.
When asked about his enduring passion for the event, Tumaini humbly stated, “It’s the passion and a good eye for the car. It’s a good hobby.”
