Following his impressive performance at the Berlin Marathon, Japanese automaker, Isuzu D-Max has decided to honour legendary athlete Eluid Kipchoge with a special Issue D-max limited edition pickup.
Dubbed the ‘I:59 Special’, the new Isuzu model will be available for buyers in 2023 with Kipchoge set to own the first of the limited edition collection.
Isuzu East Africa Managing Director, Rita Kavashe, noted that they will manufacture only 159 cars in honour of Kipchoge’s Ineos 1:59 record.
“These will be limited editions for customers interested in these types of vehicles,” she said during the launch.
“We want to celebrate Kipchoge’s success in a different way as a company considering that we have gained a lot since our partnership started in 2017.”
Kipchoge, who has endorsed the brand for five years now, thanked Isuzu for supporting his career so far.
“Isuzu is my third leg. They are part of my systems that have helped me walk this journey. Isuzu as a sponsor is one of my teammates to help me towards success. The other corporate world should follow what Isuzu is doing to promote sports. Sport is life,” he said.
“They have been with me and I want to thank them for their support and you can see what has happened for the last five years.”
Not much is now about the car in terms of specs but it’s expected to retail at around 9.5 Million shillings.
