On October 31, 2023, the divorce proceedings involving former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, and his ex-wife, Gifty, were officially concluded by the Accra High Court.

The court ruled to dissolve the union that had been consummated in 2013. It also addressed matters related to the paternity and custody of the three children born during the marriage and the division of landed and vehicular properties in the name of Gifty.

In response to the court’s decision, Asamoah Gyan made his first public statement via a Twitter post (now on X), expressing his mature handling of the outcome and indicating that he had retained a significant portion of his wealth.

Here is an overview of the reliefs sought by Gifty in court and the final rulings:

Gifty’s Sought Reliefs:

  1. Alimony of US$1 million: This request was rejected by the court. Alimony, a financial support ordered by the court during separation or following divorce, was not granted.
  2. Share of Asamoah Gyan’s stake in various businesses: This claim was also rejected as Gifty Gyan failed to provide sufficient evidence of Asamoah Gyan’s ownership in these businesses.
  3. Share of an East Legon mansion and a property known as Baby Jet Heights: The court ruled that these properties were not to be considered as spousal properties and thus dismissed this request.
  4. Cost and legal fees: The court also dismissed Gifty’s request for cost and legal fees.

In addition to these financial matters, the court ruled that Asamoah Gyan’s mansion in the United Kingdom be transferred to Gifty Gyan as part of the settlement. She was also awarded a four-bedroom house located in Spintex, Accra.

Furthermore, two vehicles owned by Asamoah Gyan, a BMW and an Infiniti, have been assigned to Gifty Gyan.

Additionally, a piece of land originally designated for the construction of a filling station has also been granted to Gifty Gyan.

This legal decision marks a significant development in the protracted legal dispute between Asamoah Gyan and Gifty Gyan, especially concerning child custody and financial matters. It’s worth noting that in 2018, Asamoah Gyan had publicly disclosed financial challenges, citing bankruptcy, which added complexity to the situation.

Additionally, Gyan had reportedly ceased communication with his wife and children since August, leading to unanswered phone calls from the family. Asamoah Gyan is said to have expressed his intention to seek an annulment of the marriage, as requested by his older brother, Baffuor, further complicating this intricate family saga.
