It’s evident that Lonzo Ball has developed a strained relationship with Stephen A. Smith.
The Chicago Bulls’ prominent player strongly criticized the ESPN anchor after Smith raised doubts about Ball’s potential to recover from his knee injury.
Ball shared a video demonstrating his ability to stand on his left leg and sit on a chair, countering Smith’s assertions that he struggled to rise from a seated position.
“Stephen A., can you shed some light on your sources? Kindly reveal them. Come on, seriously. You’ve got to halt the constant chatter. And just so you know, I’ve got respect for you, even though we’re not close. But I genuinely respect you! I’m making my comeback, so let’s be real!” Ball’s frustration was triggered by Smith’s recent statements on ESPN’s program “First Take.”
During the discussion, Smith delved into Ball’s injury, commenting:
“Somewhere along the line, there were complications with the procedures he underwent. Considering the details we’ve been exposed to, I doubt he’ll ever be the same. Rumors suggest even standing up from a seated position is a challenge for him.” In March of last year, the Bulls officially announced that Ball would undergo yet another knee surgery, marking his third within 14 months since tearing his meniscus in January 2022, as reported by Yahoo Sports.
The former standout from UCLA hasn’t participated in any NBA matches since enduring the left knee injury.
The entirety of the 2022-23 season went by without his presence due to persistent discomfort in his surgically treated knee. Ball confirmed during the “From the Point by Trae Young” podcast that he would remain sidelined for the entire 2023-24 season too, having undergone an innovative procedure to rectify the damage in his left knee.
