This weekend that was featured various competitions across the leagues in Europe and as usual, was not short of drama and all round action.
The story of the weekend perhaps is Manchester United’s exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Leicester City as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s chances of silverware continue to look bleak for yet another season.
Since it was FA Cup weekend, there were only four Premier League fixtures for round 29, with the likes of Arsenal and Spurs all in action in the league.
The Gunners showed some character by coming from three goals down to draw 3-3 against WestHam on Sunday, while Tottenham routinely won 2-0 against Aston Villa,
The FA Cup semifinal draw was confirmed upon United’s exit and Chelsea, who beat Sheffield United in the previous round, will take on Manchester City while Leicester will tackle Southampton who knocked out Bournemouth.
In the Serie A, Juventus succumbed to a shock defeat against minions Benevento, with their title aspirations looking all but over.
Robert Lewandowski continued his fine goalscoring form in the Bundesliga with a hat trick as Bayern cruised to a 4-0 win over Stuttgart despite going down to 10 men. The win took Bayern four points clear at the top of the table.
In La Liga, Lionel Messi also showed his class yet again and a masterful performance from Barcelona saw them destroy Real Sociedad 6-1 on Sunday, with Sergino Dest benefiting from a shift in formation to bag a brace.
Real Madrid also won their game against Celta Vigo 3-1 to further intensify the La Liga title race.
