People gain belly fat for various reasons, and there have been a number of misconceptions about the whole issue in recent times.

One of the biggest ones is that mainstream risk items fatty foods are the sole contributors to unwanted belly fat.

However, as modern studies have recently shown, having what is scientifically known as visceral fat comes from some typical lifestyle which seem normal to many people today.

It is kind to note that unwanted fat on the belly puts one at risk of various health issues as lots of fat in the abdominal area means more pressure and stress on vital body organs

Here are some of the everyday food and other lifestyle factors which could be your source of visceral fat misery:

Alcohol

This is the most popular factor. Too much alcohol intake not only hurts the liver, but can lead to weight gain in the belly area as well.

Lack of exercise

A sedentary lifestyle means excess fat has no outlet and keeps accumulating in the belly area mostly.

Poor sleep

Fun fact: You actually stand a better chance to lose weight with good sleep than to be awake and slouchy.

Not getting enough sleep has been linked to certain eating disorders which ultimately leads to weight gain in unwanted areas.

Stress

Who doesn’t have stress in their life? But allowing yourself to succumb to too much stress leads to the overproduction of steroid hormone known as cortisol which helps the body deal.

Cortisol causes excess calories to remain in the belly and other areas in the body for later use.

Low Protein diet

Diet low in protein tends to be absorbed faster by the body, meaning you are likely to eat more and the more you eat, the greater the chances of accumulating fat in the belly area.
