Norwich City footballer Flynn Clarke has been sentenced to a 12-month jail term following his involvement in a head-on collision that resulted in injuries to six individuals.
On April 30, 2022, Clarke, aged 20, was operating a black BMW sports car when he collided head-on with a camper van on the westbound A47. Subsequently, another vehicle collided with the rear of the camper van.
Injuries Sustained by Those Involved
In the aftermath of the crash, Clarke, who is a Scotland U21 international, sustained minor injuries, as did two 19-year-old male passengers who were accompanying him in the BMW. Two additional 19-year-old male passengers seated in the back of the car sustained severe injuries.
The driver of the van, a 59-year-old man, sustained serious injuries, while his front-seat passenger, a 60-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.
A witness at the scene reported that Clarke had been driving recklessly, weaving between lanes, with his car’s occupants appearing distracted.

Discovery of Nitrous Oxide Canisters
During the investigation, nitrous oxide canisters, commonly known as “hippy crack,” were discovered in the BMW. No mechanical issues were found with any of the vehicles, and road conditions were described as favorable for driving.
Clarke, who had recently joined National League side Dagenham & Redbridge on loan from Norwich, was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was also disqualified from driving for a period of 30 months.
PC Alex Thomas, a member of the Road Policing Unit, commented on the incident, stating, “Clarke’s actions on that day displayed a reckless disregard for safety and led to an avoidable collision that left six individuals injured, including four of his acquaintances.
The outcome could have been far more tragic. I hope this serves as a lesson to him about the dire consequences of such dangerous driving.”
Prior to his loan move, Clarke had played 11 matches for Peterborough United’s first team, having risen through their youth ranks. He subsequently transferred to Norwich for an undisclosed fee in 2021 and spent a portion of the previous season on loan at Walsall before joining Dagenham.
