Cameroon striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is set to miss his side’s upcoming qualifiers because of a simple email error.
The Bayern Munich striker will miss games against Cape Verde and Rwanda scheduled for next week after it emerged that the email calling him up was sent to the wrong address.
Bild initially broke the story which claimed the Cameroon international never got the call up because as the Cameroon FA sent the invitation to themselves.
A second email was answered by Bayern but Choupo-Moting was still not nominated for the squad.
“I regret that there was a mis-communication in terms of the nomination,” the striker said.
“I really wanted to play for my national team. Nevertheless I wish the team the very best for the African Cup Qualifiers. Cameroon is still and will be a matter of my heart and I’m looking forward to be nominated again for the next internationals in September.”
Cameroon have already qualified for the tournament as hosts but are still playing in the qualifiers to determine results of other nations still fighting for qualification.
Choupo-Moting was born in Hamburg, Germany but pledged his allegiance to Cameroon after playing for his native country at youth level.
He made his senior debut in 2010 and has captained the national side on seven occasions.
