In a heartfelt gesture, sportswear giant Nike has paid tribute to the illustrious career of two-time Olympic marathon champion, Eliud Kipchoge. The company has named a running track after him at its European headquarters in the Netherlands and unveiled a remarkable statue in his likeness at its main headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, USA.
Two-Decade Partnership with Nike
Taking to his social media platform, Kipchoge, who is known for his extraordinary achievements in the world of long-distance running, expressed his deep gratitude to Nike and reminisced about the two-decade-long partnership they have shared.
He reflected on how Nike has been an integral part of his journey since their collaboration in 2003, providing constant inspiration and innovative support throughout his career.
Eliud Kipchoge’s Monumental Achievements and Honors
The 38-year-old running sensation also proudly announced the inauguration of both the “Eliud Kipchoge Track” in the Netherlands and the stunning statue at Nike’s Beaverton headquarters.
In his message, he shared, “We unveiled the Eliud Kipchoge Track at the Nike European Headquarters in the Netherlands, while at the same time, Nike revealed a statue of me at the headquarters in Beaverton. Thank you, Nike, for the great partnership; together, we run as one.”
Kipchoge’s incredible partnership with Nike has led to an array of monumental achievements in his career. He clinched two Olympic marathon gold medals and became the first man in history to secure victory in the Berlin Marathon an astounding five times.
Moreover, he etched his name in the annals of running history by breaking the two-hour barrier in the marathon, a feat achieved on October 12, 2019, during the unofficial Ineos 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria.
Kipchoge’s dominance extends to the London Marathon, where he boasts the title of a four-time champion. As if these achievements were not enough, he has also shattered the marathon world record twice, underlining his enduring legacy in the world of long-distance running.
