Renowned marathoner Eliud Kipchoge is poised to receive an esteemed honorary doctorate degree from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) in recognition of his exceptional contributions to humanity.

The prestigious award is scheduled to be presented to Eliud Kipchoge, a five-time Berlin Marathon champion, during JKUAT’s 41st graduation ceremony set for December 1, as announced in an official notice by the university.

In acknowledging Kipchoge’s remarkable humanitarian and philanthropic efforts, JKUAT expressed its admiration for the athlete, widely acclaimed as the world’s greatest marathoner.

The Honorary Degree Committee, University Senate, and Council collectively deemed Kipchoge worthy of the honorary degree, conferring upon him the esteemed title of Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa).

This marks Kipchoge’s second honorary doctorate degree, following a similar recognition from Laikipia University in 2019 for his significant contributions to the world of sports.

While Eliud Kipchoge’s 2023 season presented a mix of results, including a fifth-place finish at the Boston Marathon and a subsequent triumph in Berlin, he faced the remarkable feat of watching Kelvin Kiptum break his world record in Chicago.

Beyond the track, Kipchoge received additional honors from his sponsors, Nike, including the naming of a running track after him at their European headquarters in the Netherlands. Furthermore, a statue in his likeness was unveiled by Nike in Oregon, USA, underscoring the global impact of his athletic achievements.
