Lionel Messi sent a heartfelt message to his long time friend Ronaldinho following the death of the Brazilian superstar’s mother.
Miguelina Elói Assis dos Santos reportedly passed away in Brazil over the weekend due to complications arising from COVID-19.
Ronaldinho, in December announced his mother had been admitted at the Mãe de Deus Hospital in Porto Alegre after contracting the virus.
Since news of her death,a number of concerned parties , including FC Barcelona have sent condolences messages to the 40-year old Ronaldinho.
Messi also took to his own social media platform on Sunday, February 21 to condole with his friend as he posted the following message:
“Ronnie, I have no words, I can’t believe it. Just sending you a lot of strength and a big hug to you and the family. I’m very sorry, RIP.”
Ronaldinho was an important factor in Lionel Messi’s career as he helped him grow through the ranks with the Blaugrana.
Despite the fact Messi was only a teenager when the two crossed paths, Ronadinho already had a feeling the Argentine would go on to be the one of the best players ever.
Notably, Gaucho assisted Messi’s first ever goal for Barcelona.
Ronaldinho left Barcelona in 2008 just when Messi’s career was starting to take off but the pair remained great friends after.
