Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has officially joined the coaching team of Ukrainian side Olimpik Donetsk.

Toure has over the past few months been pursuing his coaching qualifications in England and has spent time with both Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers.

Despite a stint in England, his first major coaching role took him back to Ukraine, where he first kicked off his football career with Metalurh Donetsk between 2003 and 2005.

Taking to social media, the Ivory coast international, 37, made it known to fans that he was a coach at the Ukranian side.

“It’s great to back in the Ukraine to continue by coaching journey! Thank you to Olympic Donetsk for the wonderful welcome. I’m looking forward to passing on my knowledge, helping the team and also continuing my learning here,” he said.

He now joins the coaching staff of head coach Igor Klimovsky and will hopefully help the team, which currently sit in mid table of the Ukrainian top flight.

As a player, Toure won three Premier League titles with Manchester City and was largely regarded as one of the most powerful and commanding midfielders in the EPL in his prime.

He also won two La Liga titles in Spain with Barcelona, where he was pre dominantly deployed as a centre back.

His last playing stint was with Qingdao Huanghai in the Chinese Super League where he left in January 2020.
