2018 Ballon d’or winner Luka Modric made history on Saturday by becoming the most capped player for the country ever.
Modric, who made his Croatia debut in 2006, surpassed Darijo Srna’s record.
His Saturday ended in the perfect way as Croatia beat Cyprus 1-0 to mark on in their quest for World Cup qualification.

Modric played the full 90 minutes where Mario Pasalic scored the only goal of the game to give his nation a vital three points.
A delightful video has since surfaced online showing Modric almost in tears after the game.
As a way to mark his feat, the Croatia squad was shown Modric’s outstanding appearances throughout his career for his country.

When that was done, the squad gave the 35-year old a standing ovation for an outstanding international career.
The Croat, overwhelmed with emotion, could not hold back his tears as he as presented with a cake bearing the number ‘135’ on it.
In all honesty, Modric deserves what is coming to him as he has had an impressive career, both at club and international level.
Having won the Ballon d’Or three years ago, the Croatian broke Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s dominance in football and cemented his place as one of the best midfielders of his generation.
